Travelling
by train is probably one of the most authentic experiences in
India. To watch the amazing skill of carrying and consuming home-made
lunch packs for train journeys of up to four days is unforgettable.
India's trains are the best place to meet people from all over
India. One can opt for a simple travel in second class or sleeper
class or the more luxurious travel in third, second or first Air
Conditioned (AC) class. Some trains still have a first class without
air condition which is prized between Third and Second AC. In
the hot Summers it is advisible to travel in AC and even with
small children because of the well closing doors.
The Indian train network is huge and although
train journeys can be very long they can be very comfortable since
one can travel in the sleeper class and save time otherwise spent
in hotels.
It is advisible to book train tickets well in
advance, especially in holiday seasons because waiting lists can
be very long. In some places one can book through the foreigners
reservation quota. For late booking there is a complicated system
which is even for Indians tough to understand.
