Desire Earth is aware of the fact
that any kind of tourism has an impact on local environments,
both social and ecological. In order to minimize harm to people
and nature, Desire Earth is dedicated to take appropriate
measures. This includes working with local partners that are rooted
in their rural society, to avoid the outflow of all revenues generated
by the work of locals. Part of this is an adequate remuneration
of local staff and partners. The aim is to provide the rural population
with additional income that enables them to live a dignified life
and to enable them to pay for healthcare and education.
Desire
Earth is also committed to preserve the local nature, including
all endemic species of fauna and flora. The handling of litter
and the use of fossil fuels are carefully administered to avoid
spoilage and waste. Transportation methods are also chosen with
an eye on sustainability: Often an overnight train can easily
replace a domestic flight, while being comfortable and a unique
Indian experience to foreign customers at the same time.
All efforts of a tour operator, however, can
only complement the right behaviour of the travellers themselves.
The right environmental behaviour of each individual contributes
a lot to the preservation of plants and animals. This includes
not to litter and not to leave paths and tracks, not plucking
flowers and plants, especially endangered species, and sharing
transportation modes with other travellers where possible. Respectful
behaviour towards the local population is also important to allow
for preservation of local societal structures and a smooth adoption
process with respect to the advancing globalised world.
