This
is Lord Shivas Abode. Where he used to meditate in the icy heights
of the Himalayas now the pilgrims trekking paths lead along. From
the source of ganga in gangotri to where it leads to the plains
in Rishikesh and Haridwar his name is praised. It is an unforgettable
experience for the traveller to follow the pilgrim’s path,
watch the Sadhus in their daily routine and see the thousands
of pilgrims come and go. As the Ganges broadens it crosses the
state of Utter Pradesh with its important Pilgrim sites of Varanasi
and Allahabad. Bihar as India’s poorest state is famous
for Bodhgaya, the place where Buddha gained enlightenment. Agra
and Fatehpur Sikri are symbols for the heights of the Mughal Emporium
and still important places of Muslim faith. In the Himalayan states
of Uttaranchal, Himachal Pradesh, Kashmir and Ladhak the traveller
can relax from the hectic life of the plains. There are a variety
of trekking possibilities through serene mountain landscapes and
the cultures of the mountain tribes are as varied as in the plains;
towards Tibet they have a great Buddhist influence. Punjab is
home of the Sikhs with their famous golden temple in Amritsar.
The North is too vast an area to cover in only one visit. With
its variety in culture and landscapes it pulls the traveller on
it’s dusty roads to see more and more of a reality which
is based on faith and the strengths to stand the hard truth of
every day’s life.
